Tabitha Reeves: SPACE GIRL! Parts I -

2011-10-12 14:19:35

This is the collected version of my writing experiment — Tabitha Reeves: SPACE GIRL!

I will probably collate in 5 part chunks. But since only part 4 is out, we’ll see about that.

Help me decide what my next project is.

Fun, Fun, Fun

2010-03-21 19:35:09

Sitting alone in a restaurant last night (note: here I invoke pity without explaining why), I took on this task.

I took the first three songs I heard and formed a story based on them. Since the restaurant in question was Fuddrucker’s, it was pretty much doomed to be oldies. These are the three songs:

The Ventures – “Walk, Don’t Run”
Del Shannon – “Little Runaway”
The Beach Boys – “Fun, Fun, Fun”

I haven’t, strictly speaking, gotten to the part about walk, don’t run, but I will in the next installment.

UPDATE: I’ve written more! And yet I still haven’t said “Walk, don’t run.” It’s all in the plan though.

Tyleria: Law of the Jungle

2009-10-08 15:42:01

The largest and last of the Azmoth articles. This one was actually one of the first created, but I was missing a section. No idea what happened to it. Anyway, I more or less fixed it. I’m not happy with it, but there it is.

The 22nd Century

2009-09-24 15:41:16

Life 150 years from now.

This was originally conceived as a collaborative writing project that never took off. I wrote this document, but there was extensive contribution by Dan Wells and Robison Wells as I was putting the information together.

Parth: Tarth and Parthann — Two Desert Empires of Faith and Learning

09:26:52

I remember being annoyed when I wrote this Azmoth article that it turned into a single article. They’re different empires, so I kind of felt that they deserved their own article. But the shared history and religion was enough that it didn’t justify repeating. Maybe I’ll think of a better way to organize it when I put together the pdf of the whole world.

Silkur: Knives, Pride, and Lots of Wine

08:58:02

This is another Azmoth article by Nathan “Lieutenant Kije” Hatfield that shows his creative deftness. This was almost a complete departure that I had in my head when I wrote the first document in the series. And it’s also completely better. A fascinating set of people, these Silkurees.

The Nomad Plains: Wanderers in a Strange Land

2009-09-23 19:53:35

Back to one I wrote all by my lonesome. You can tell the very different style from the ones by Kije. I like the idea of the Hegs, and the quetzls weren’t a bad touch. I went much more high fantasy than the previous entries in the Azmoth series.

Bregtoran: Warriors of Steppe and of Skov

13:28:56

While Bask is my favorite article, this is the Azmoth article with the most potential for use, in my opinion. Buckets of plot/adventure hooks and a firm culture to go around it.

I remember editing this one and being impressed with the ingenuity and creative mind Nathan “Lieutenant Kije” Hatfield had — even regarding stuff we eventually cut out.

Bask: Islands of Power and Wealth

10:52:01

This Azmoth article was originally written by Nathan “Lieutenant Kije” Hatfield under my direction. It was heavily modeled after Renaissance England or the Netherlands. Kije did a great job on all the articles, but I think this was my favorite.

The Humans of Azmoth

Another Azmoth entirely by me. (The main document can be found here.) This one describes the peculiar traits unique to human beings on Azmoth.

The World of Azmoth: Godwar Battlefield

15:56:39

This fantasy world section was written primarily by me and Nathan “Lieutenant Kije” Hatfield for The Official Time-Waster’s Guide back in 2003. This particular article is 100% my own work, but a great many of the ideas in the further development of this setting were contributed by others, including Dan Wells, Jeff Crews, and Jordan Sanderson.

The Nexus

2009-05-17 19:39:40

Here’s a setting idea I flung out today. It’s not the best I’ve ever done, by a long shot. Hardly original. But it provides me a place I”m hoping I can write stories in with my daughters.

Yes, it has the absolute worst ending ever. Thank you.

S.N.E.A.K.S. — The Man of Cards

2009-04-04 11:43:50

I actually wrote this several days ago, but I’m finally getting around to posting it. This is not part IV of the story. This takes place later. In fact, it introduces a new member of the team that i haven’t planned to introduce for quite some time.

This scene was inspired by a few things. Most immediately by Sting’s “Shape of My Heart.” Those who have listened to this song (from the album Ten Summoner’s Tales) will recognize this character. Other inspirations include Alexander Pope’s “The Rape of the Lock,” specifically part III, and The Levellers “The Game.” I also thought a lot about the Brisco County scene where he cheats his opponent “fair and square,” but I don’t think I included it.

Clearly, there’s more to this scene, but until I have more high level details at least outlined, I can’t write the game.

Which is the other issue. I wanted to use the game Ombre as the game they play. It’s the game from Pope’s poem, and it feels more appropriate to the setting. However, I’m having a very difficult time understanding the bidding — or at least learning sufficiently what the bids mean. If anyone can make it easier to understand, that’d be great. It sounds more like the game The Man of Cards would play than, say, poker — especially with the tokens, which contextually make more sense than chips. However, it’s also got the problem that it’s only for three people, maybe four. And there are five in this scene. Perhaps someone can suggest an Ombre-like game suitable for varying amounts of people. Bidding should be involved, and tricks, and it should be playable with one or two decks of standard playing cards (though removing cards from decks are OK.

Bloody Waters (ii)

2009-02-25 15:29:11

Smee and the others fight a terrible storm.

This is a very short update, but I’m a little frustrated with a couple things right now. Please feel free to enjoy.
